Red Hat Linux Secure Builds
Here are some documents aimed to assist you with creating a secure RHEL environment. They are based on Vmware templated builds however can be adapted to standalone builds.
They are designed to show you how to build a reasonably secure server without a lot of commentary on things like network design or why certain decisions were made.
They are based on the NSA guidelines with most of the hard work already done for you.

Please note they are not beginner level and assume experience with Vmware and Linux/Red Hat, in particular the apache config has had a lot of changes made to it.
